From the Estate Collection of Josh Dykes, we're pleased to present his favored "Black Widow." Josh was a well known and respected car collector and has owned and restored literally hundreds of top tier vehicles and this was one of his favorites.
1957 Chevrolet Belair 2 door ‘black widow’ tribute car. In 1957, Chevrolet decided to create a race car that would dominate NASCAR and establish Chevrolet as the car to beat in the minds of buyers across the country. Known as the ‘Black Widow’, the 1957 Chevrolet was one of the most feared race cars of the decade. Chevrolet put together a ‘1957 Chevrolet Stock Car Competition Guide’ which explained in great detail how dealers could build their own Black Widow cars. These were 150 cars stripped down and built for racing. This car represents the specs in this guide, however it has a famed 427 big block as opposed to the 283 fuel injected engine.
This Chevy had a frame off ‘no expense spared’ restoration done and only 100 miles have been put on the car since it was completed. The body was painted in a flawless black and white finish. All chrome, trim and brightwork including front and rear bumpers. As a Black Widow car; the rear side windows are fixed, radio delete, heater delete, and wiper delete.
It is powered by a completely rebuilt 427 that is the ‘512’ casting block. It has an aluminum intake manifold, Holley double pumper carburetor, finned aluminum valve covers, MSD ignition, open element chrome air cleaner and custom made fenderwell headers. All new wiring, new radiator, new fuel cell and fuel lines. The Muncie M22 transmission was specifically built for this car and has a custom Hurst shifter with LineLok. The rear end is a Fab 9” housing with 4.11 positraction. It has all new brake lines and power 4 wheel disc brakes. New front suspension and new 4 link rear suspension. It runs and drives on Cragar S/S wheels with cheater slicks on the rear.
The interior features factory cobble stone seats, tilt steering column, modern style gauges with retro look, new rubber floor mats and seat belts.
An incredible built 57 Black Widow Chevy!
