This 1937 White Model 706 was developed specifically for sightseeing in the National Park System. This Coach was originally one of 98 for Yellowstone National Park and one of 41 ordered for 1937. 27 were first ordered in 1936 and 20 in 1938 and 10 in 1939. This bus was lovingly restored by a museum between 2015-2019 and finished in the red and black livery of Glacier National Park.
The radiator cowling and grille were designed by the renowned Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky, whose designs were also used on the Packard, Cord and DeVaux automobiles. The Bender Body company designed and built the coach under the leadership of Herman Bender and F.W. Black, President of White Motor Company. With only 500 built between 1936-1939, this fully restored example features the signature White front grille with tall chrome vertical bar grille underscored by a chrome bumper, large twin headlights mounted to the black fenders. Seating up to 14 passengers, it features a large sliding canvas top and rear barn doors allowing access to the rear storage area.
It is powered by a 318 cubic inch 16A Flathead 6 cylinder White engine paired with a 4 speed manual transmission. 6 volt electrical. Upgraded with an electric fuel pump. All mechanically rebuilt, this coach rolls on Red and Black steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and 20 inch Goodyear tires.
The interior features 5 bench seats upholstered in brown vinyl, coordinating door panels and gray carpet. Grab bars on top of the seat backs incorporated into the chrome seat frames. Roll down windows, 4 spoke steering wheel and factory gauges on restored wood dash panel.
This restored Model 705 Red Bus is a rare opportunity to acquire a unique piece of automotive history serving the tourism industry.
